The details about the mysterious XPERIA Pureness have finally been revealed as the handset has made its way onto Sony Ericsson’s portfolio website. A funny thing to note is that local sites are apparently translating the word “Pureness”, hence giving it another product name. In Denmark it’s called “XPERIA Ren”, which sounds about as dumb as it looks. The proper product name is also mentioned on the Danish site though, so I’m actually not entirely sure what to call it ![]()
Anyway, as most of you had probably guessed by now, the Pureness – or X5 as it’s also called – is pretty basic in terms of functionality. It sports a slightly altered version of Sony Ericsson’s standard operating system for feature phones (OSE/A2) and a few features have been removed because of the limitations of the transparent display. Quite amazingly though, it has retained the NetFront web browser and there’s also a music player. Sony Ericsson even state that it’s capable of video playback and streaming, although I honestly have no idea how that would work out or if it’s even worth bothering. On the other hand, this could just be a mistake, seeing the website also lists the display as being a QVGA resolution colour TFT display.

It’s quite a small handset, measuring only 102 x 43 x 13 millimetres and weighing a mere 72.5 grams including the battery, which on a side note cannot be removed from the handset. This means that you essentially can’t swap the battery yourself if it goes bad. Good thing the phone is covered by the excellent XPERIA Service, huh?
Another very cool feature is called Pureness concierge, and it basically makes you a VIP. It’s a 24-hour concierge service that’s available in a number of cities, i.e. Dubai, Hong Kong, Moscow and Paris. Simply call the concierge team and they’ll help you make the most of your visit by placing reservations for travels, restaurants, entertainment and sports, health and beauty and of course with all your shopping related activities. What a brilliant idea for those who need it! In other words the Pureness makes a VIP ![]()

By the way – for those of you wondering why I haven’t covered the latest leaks and rumours, it’s because I don’t think they’re particularly interesting – yet.
