At last it happened. Sony Ericsson have just introduced the Rachael as the XPERIA X10 and it seems to be an incredible phone. It’ll be the flagship product of a family of products coming in the first half of 2010. More information will be available in a couple of weeks.

It runs Android 1.6 and Sony Ericsson’s New UX (User Experience) platform is going to offer a great and entuitive user experience. This platform will evolve across platforms and is not limited to Android – thank god!

- “The XPERIA X10 and the family of phones launching in the first half of 2010 underpin our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximises choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible consumer experience. The reaction from our global operator partners to the XPERIA X10 has been extremely positive and we will be rolling out across the world including Japan from the first half of 2010,” says Bert Nordberg, President of Sony Ericsson.

There’s no doubt Sony Ericsson wants to market the X10 as the ultimate media device and they’ve done a great deal of being able to do that. Comes with 8 GB of storage room. The new MediaScape and TimeScape applications will let user organize all their data in a simple way.

MediaScape is the new media browser and player, featuring photo, music and video functionality. It looks really promising and I can’t wait for it to come!

TimeScape is meant for people using web 2.0 services, such as Facebook. It manages all communication with one person in one place, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, emails, messages or photos. Sony Ericsson’s technology will automatically match and filter all content, and they’ve even got advanced face recognition of up to five faces in a photo. This will come in handy on Facebook and shots of your friends!

- “The XPERIA™ X10 is a fantastic example of our make.believe philosophy because we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible and demonstrating that anything consumers can imagine, we can make possible. With the X10, we are raising the bar we have set ourselves with entertainment-rich phones like Aino and Satio by making communication more fun and playful, multiplying and enriching opportunities to connect,” says Rikko Sakaguchi, EVP and Chief Creation Officer at Sony Ericsson.

The X10 will include both the Android Market and PlayNow Arena stores, which is a positive thing. I was fearing that they’d leave Android Market out, but then again I doubt that’s possible.

x10_3

It’s got a 3.5 mm audio jack, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, aGPS, Micro USB connector, WiFi, triband HSPA and quadband GSM.

The screen is a 4.0 inch touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. It’s scratch-resistant and can display up to 262.144 colours. It’s capacitive too!

The camera is an 8 megapixel autofocus camera with an LED flash. It supports advanced face recognition with built-in tagging functionality of your friends. Smile shutter and geotagging is of course also available and so is high definition video recording.

x10_4

It measures 119 x 63 x 13 millimetres and weighs 135 grams. The hardware chipset is the Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 running at a clock frequency of 1 GHz.

The X10 will hit the market in the first quarter of 2010 in colours Sensuous Black and Luster White. Am I the only one who’s excited about this? :-)

Hi Mizz, some questions about this great device.
There are a lot of confussion about two things, memory onboard, some sites says it ill ship with 16Gb onboard and 8 GB mc, and some says 8 GB onboard, what is the deal?
Second, the video resolution, again, some says VGA, what is the correct numbers?
And what about upgrade possibilities with Eclair?
    Thanks mizz.

Actually, it says it has 16k colours on their website hahaha! Definitely a typo.

I’m so excited for this phone… gosh, I just hope it wont cost more than $800 USD when it comes out!!

  8. XPHCTOC says:

Very very very very HOT product. In latin it would be called the SEXX. hahaha 1gb internal memory is a good move (I hope we will be able to use this space for installing apps). I cannot understand why SE keep showing products at an early stage of developpement. Maybe they had to stop the rumours? And particurlaly the supposed specs shown it the fake video. I also can’t understand why X10 only has donut… Does that mean that Motorola has an exclusive agreement with google for a time limited use of eclair? Never mind I have faith in SE and X10 will be mine in march. I hope its battery life won’t S(E)UX…

  9. southern says:

It could even gets more powerful if they using dual CPU (1.5Ghz) QSD8672…

    QSD 8250:
    1 GHz CPU
    600MHz DSP
    Integrated 3G mobile broadband
Support for Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® connectivity
    Built-in seventh-generation gpsOne® engine with Standalone-GPS and Assisted-GPS modes
High-definition (720p) video decode, and multiple video codec support
    High-performance 3D graphics – up to 22M triangles/sec and 133M 3D pixels/sec
High-resolution up to WXGA (1280×720) display support
    12-megapixel camera support
Multiple audio codecs: (AAC+, eAAC+, AMR, FR, EFR, HR, WB-AMR, G.729a, G.711, AAC stereo encode)
Support for mobile broadcast TV (MediaFLO™, DVB-H and ISDB-T)
Support for Windows Mobile®, Android, and a number of Linux®-based operating systems
    Qualcomm’s hybrid mode alternative solution

    QSD8672:
Dual CPUs, up to 1.5 GHz for faster response and processing
Low-power 45nm process technology for higher integration and performance
    Higher-resolution WSXGA (1440 x 900) display support
High-definition (1080p) video recording and playback
Support for HSPA+ networks – 28 Mbps downloads and 11 Mbps uploads

And definitely the battery life is a real sacrifice in there :p

    android 1.6 ???????????
    i can’t believe that

  11. erwiin.blf says:

hot hot hot for the UI
lame lame lame for the OS
using Android 2.0 eclair might be better instead of donut
btw does anybody know about the video recording?

  12. moogoo says:

From the looks of it, color is only 16K due to android 1.6 limitation (I think). Whether the LCD can support up to 24-bit color depth is not clear, but I hope so. Android 2.0 supports 24-bit color depth as far as i can tell.

Love the x10 though. Am curious to find out more specific specs.. the website keeps the features and specs very general with no real explanation. Is it really Hi Def video recording? Doesn’t seem like it as it wasn’t mentioned anywhere in press release and it seems to me something like that would be advertised. Hope the american version doesn’t take too long to be released!
