Sony Ericsson today confirmed that the XPERIA X10 will be upgraded to Android 2.1 in the fourth quarter of the year. They’re calling it a UXP (User Experience Platform) upgrade and it’s going to be great! Besides upgrading the operating system to version 2.1, the UXP upgrade will also include other new features. HD video capture like on the Vivaz is one of these. This means you’ll be able to record 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) video clips on the phone and I’m also hoping for continuous auto focus during video recording.
They’re also upgrading the two signature applications Mediascape and Timescape to “make them even smarter and richer”, whatever that means. DLNA support is also coming in this upgrade.
More details will be available later in the year, but that’s all we’re getting right now. It’s coming in Q4, so I’d say some time around October. There’s also a small update for the X10 coming within the next couple of weeks, that’ll improve stability and usability.
Oh – the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro are also getting an Android 2.1 update in Q4 this year. Nice!

Nice !!!
good news but 2.1 or 2.2??
Might I suggest you read at least the title?
yes yes, but I mean Why not update to version 2.2 which is expected to be announced in 2 weeks??
Google haven’t announced it yet, so Sony Ericsson – being a partner – can’t mention anything about it. Makes sense
anyway thanks for news
Great HD Video \m/
I wonder if we will get multi touch and pinch to zoom…
Hmmmm…. What about multi touch?
definitely no multitouch or pinch zooming. I think thats already been established =)
But what great news!! Personally i’ve grown out of the Timescape App. its fairly useless, when using the facebook app is so much more convenient.
Using it as homepage would give it some purpose. But using timescape is homepage is incredibly slow when pulling the android menu shelf. Lets hope they figure this out by the next update.
Mediascape could use some upgrades too. Animated swipes in viewing images for example…
Q4…this year…Don’t you think it’s too late?
Dear Michell,
your really one of a kind you know that!! You have all the energy to test, experience and post new and exciting stuff plus you also spend some time to respond and answer the readers. Great job man!!
I think people owe you here, because it’s rare to see a person nowadays that is really dedicated and serious in what he is doing. You try to close all the gaps hehe.
And although that sometimes I disagree with your opinions which I think is totally normal, however, I deeply respect what your doing for us all. Thumbs up for you man!
Thanks for your heartwarming comment. It means a lot to me
Have a nice day!
I really meant every word Michell, you are different and unique and you must know that. It takes a lot of energy to do what your doing, and the best part is that you keep in touch and contact with the readers. So please keep the good working going on, it’s people like you that make a huge difference! as I always find you a reliable source that I can’t trust and depend on
Same goes to you have a great day man and it’s been a pleasure speaking with you really
why do we have to wait until Q4? i mean, why the hell can’t they do the upgrade, like, NOW? i’ve got an x10 mini, & it won’t receive files via bluetooth (even with the bluetooth file transfer app- it will send, but not receive). it also won’t download pics that fit the screen (even ones taken by the phone’s camera)- they fit the screen only as previews, if i want them as wallpapers they are too big, & only a portion of each pic is in the screen, & there is no way to adjust the size! why should we have to wait months to resolve these issues? come on, SE- do the upgrade now, not in Q4!
